Job Description
Bar benders, also known as reinforcing ironworkers or rebar workers, specialize in cutting, bending, and securing steel bars or mesh for reinforced concrete structures. They play a critical role in construction projects where reinforced concrete is used, such as buildings, bridges, highways, and infrastructure.
Responsibilities

Reading and Interpreting Blueprints:
- Study construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the dimensions, spacing, and layout of reinforcing bars (rebar).

Cutting and Bending Rebar:
- Measure and cut rebar to required lengths using tools such as rebar cutters and benders.
- Bend rebar into specified shapes and angles using manual or automated bending equipment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.

Assembly and Installation:
- Assemble fabricated rebar units (cages, mats, and dowels) as per drawings and specifications.
- Secure rebar in place with tie wires, spacers, or supports to maintain proper positioning during concrete pouring.
Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using rebar cutting and bending equipment, understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and maneuver heavy rebar and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in measuring, cutting, and bending rebar to meet exact specifications.
- Teamwork: Collaboration with other tradespeople and construction teams to achieve project goals and deadlines.
